I’m Joining The WAR on TERROR

As an “east coast liberal” and avowed brie and arugula eater, I have regularly scoffed at the war on terror programs as producing more personal and monetary harm than good.   Recently, however, I have made am almost total reversal.  What I identified was the actual terror we are facing every day.

This new terrorism has been highlighted for years in mainstream and alternative news media but mislabeled with names other than terror.  Each day I awaken wondering “what attacks against us have taken place or are underway today.  Each day seems to bring new beachfronts threatening to destroy or at least severely disrupt my security.  The security for daily and future life which our government, laws and institutions are supposed to provide.  Here’s my list of recent threats.

My family’s health:  Terrorists are eroding my protection from environmental contamination of air, water and food safety.  Even if these threats don’t get me, the terrorists are attacking my access to medical care, particularly medical care for my wife, 2 daughters and 2 grand daughters.  The terrorists use every available science and technology in their attack plans although they are also promoting a disregard for science, planting doubt about any science which does not support their goals.  This affects me indirectly when neighbors stop vaccinating against diseases or vote to ban products based on fear and ignorance.

My financial security:  Terrorists have attacked the security of my assets.  Being retired, I depend upon the policing of the financial industry.  The attack that caused the recent collapse of the home ownership industry depressed worldwide economy and caused huge unemployment.  Attacks against financial regulation threaten my financial security.  These terrorist threats against public school education threatens my many grandchildren.  My local city, county and state economy is also under terrorist attacks which cut federal funding.  Undocumented immigrants make up 25% of the consumers who buy daily goods like food, gas and clothing from local businesses.  Terrorist attacks against them threatens our local economy.

Voting integrity:  Terrorists have destroyed the democracy where my vote along with every other citizen’s vote is represented equally.  They have targeted groups who do not agree with their terrorist plans and created roadblocks to prevent them from voting.  Where these resistance voters are not easily targeted as a group, they have planted booby-traps of fake news and double-speak to confuse and delay voting.

Terrorists have even come after my local neighborhood safety.  They have flooded communities and law enforcement with deadly weapons, and fear mongering fake news to increase animosities.  Their threats and attacks on undocumented residents have pushed crime reporting underground where it is hard to detect.  Terrorists have even infiltrated control of the internet, preventing strong encryption protection of my information, transactions and privacy.  They are even encouraging corporations to limit my freedom to access information.

It is now clear to me that the people who are behind these attacks must be the focus of our war on terror.  They are the ones who attack my way of life daily.  They are not Russian, Muslim, black, North Korean or Hispanic.  They are the source of fear for myself and my family and they are hiding amongst us.  As we are continually told:  If you see something, say something.

When I see one of these terrorists, I’ll now shout “TERRORIST – HELP”.

Quiz: Who Wrote about Whom?

From today’s news (April 14, 2017), this quote:

“they try unsuccessfully to cloak themselves and their actions in the language of liberty and privacy. But in reality, they champion nothing but their own celebrity. They currently is click-bait, their moral compass nonexistent, their mission personal self-aggrandizement through destruction of Western values. They do not care about the causes of the people they claim to represent. If they did, they would focus instead on autocratic regimes in this world that actually suppress free speech and dissent.

Also threaten the trust we’ve developed with our foreign partners when that trust is crucial currency among allies.  Not the slightest bit interested in improving civil liberties or enhancing personal freedom. They have pretended America’s First Amendment freedom shield them from justice.   A narcissist who has created nothing of value. He relies on the dirty work of others to make himself famous. He’s a fraud, a coward hiding behind a screen.”

The GOP War on Americans

Sadly, the majority of people in most nations will accept their governments meddling in other countries.  When people find their government meddling in their own backyard, it gets immediate resistance.  “Unite and Conquer” seems to be the strategy of the this administration by stacking all three branches of government against the people.

There is a civil war beginning in America.  The GOP led by the Trump administration is mounting an all out attack on the desires of the majority of Americans.  This majority support equal rights, abortion choice, immigration reform, ban on torture & rendition, criminal justice reform, prison reform, voter rights, alternative energy & reversing climate change, freedom of the press and government transparency.

This makes the GOP public enemy #1.  No external threat is even noteworthy compared to this assault on our daily way of life.  Terrorism from outside the US is manifestly non-existent.

DHS Requiring Photographs of Returning US Citizens

I just returned from two weeks in Mexico.  I cleared immigration/customs in Houston where for the first time in many years of regular international travel I was led with all other returning US citizens, to new kiosks which scan the passport, ask for confirmation of information and take a photograph.  The printed receipt is then taken to the same immigration desk one usually passes for the standard check and where the printed receipt is taken.

DHS ( http://www.immihelp.com/visas/usvisit.html and http://www.dhs.gov/how-do-i/visit-united-states ) report that the fingerprint/photo process applies to international visitors and green card holders but “US-VISIT does not apply to U.S. citizens”.  When the US-VISIT program was created in March, 2013 there was an outcry against collecting biometric data on US Citizens.  This resulted in the exclusion cited above.

It appears that DHS has decided to surreptitiously violate this policy.  Along with the digital photograph, is facial recognition and/or retinal scanning being used?  Can we know?  Likely only through patient FOIA requests.

Might over Right

Management theory as well as history teach that behavior flows down. The practices of leaders serves as the guidance for those being led. Ethical behavior or the uniform rule of law breed ethical and lawful actions by those influenced. Corruption breeds corruption throughout an organization, community or government. Like all conditions, it takes less effort to deteriorate than to build. A large and very consistent practice of ethical lawful behavior from the top down is required to foster uniform ethical lawful behavior throughout an organization. Only minor unethical or unlawful behavior at the top is quickly copied throughout an organization. It is true of behavior as much as it is true of corrosion, house cleaning, car repair, language and leaks.

When the highest government officials, and branches begin to operate by different rules, it is evident to individuals throughout the system. This corruption is quickly seen as a shifting in the de-facto rules of governance and most importantly, that variation from established rules may be condoned. as the rule of law breaks down, might or power sets the new rules. disintegration of uniform rules allows factions, mafias, gangs or warlords to set arbitrary rules and enforcement. The rules of the powerful naturally are enforced to benefit the powerful. Current extreme example litter the Middle East and Africa, often encouraged by those economic powers which benefit from the local despotic control.

Federal and international unlawful behavior by government and its contractors and other beneficiaries has risen steadily over the past two decades. Torture, rendition, assassination, selective habeas corpus, attorney client privilege, lying to congress, and 4th amendment violations against citizens as well as others are some of the more aggregators offenses by our government and its contractors. Our judiciary and legislators are working to make these actions legal and to reward business for conformance. Minority rights cannot be protected when corporations are granted the same rights as individuals and even individual power is unfettered. Might becomes right!

The unashamed new world order: “Money makes the world go round”. Finance and its banking structure serve those who maximize cash flow. The defense industries provide this plus profit, might and global destabilization. Telecommunications/Internet industries provide cash flow and the means of global surveillance, the second key to power. Business and the people involved further down the economic supply chain have power and the accompanying privilege of their value to the system on their combination of cash flow, information access and military strength. Of course the entire structure requires the mass of workers and consumers at multiple levels to sustain the matereal which flows power to the top. Maintaining political ignorance at the same time as technical competence is a delicate boundary which like all interfaces, has high energy and significant conflict.
